The psychology of color and the role of color in healing has far reaching impacts on interior design, fine art, clothing design, learning theory, personality profiles and much, much more. The study of color psychology and color symbolism reveals an in-depth perspective on both society, individuals and human wellness.
The “warm” colors red, orange and yellow are considered to be stimulating colors. Red is symbolic of pleasure, desire, vitality, will to win, love of sports and the survival instinct. Orange is symbolic of creativity, confidence, intuition, friendliness and the entrepreneurial spirit. Yellow is symbolic of enthusiasm, cheerfulness, sense of humor, fun, optimism and intellectuality.
The “cool” colors are green and blue. Green is symbolic of perseverance, patience, growth and healing. Green is also symbolic of work, wealth, and career. In the United States, our money is green. Green is a highly adaptable color that lends itself in interior design to areas for children, especially places where learning takes place.
Blue is symbolic of freedom, strength and new beginnings. Blue skies are symbolic of optimism and better opportunities. Blue is cooling and relaxing. Blue symbolizes water, the source of life. Agricultural people have traditionally worshipped water in the form of rivers, clouds, mist and rain. Blue is also the color of protection. More people claim blue as their favorite color than any other color. Predominantly blue paintings are usually calm and refreshing.
Purple and violet have the psychological quality of transformation. Purple is symbolic of charisma, charm, magical abilities and tolerance. Violet is symbolic of transmutation and the balance of power and love. There is also an infinite array of colors that are variations on the basic colors of the spectrum.
The role of colors in healing has been established since ancient times. The symbolic aspects of color combine with the actual physical effects of various frequencies of light. in this course, we will look at color healing traditions from around the world and ways that you can practice color healing for your own benefit and the benefit of those you love. |
