Western Wildflowers: The Story Behind the Painting
I came across some information about the wildflowers collected by the Lewis and Clark expedition and decided to create a painting that would incorporate some of the more notable western wildflowers. I chose Indian paintbrush, bluebells, yellow monkey flowers and shooting stars.
Each of the flowers overlaps others in an organic way while maintaining a sculptural texture for each leaf and petal. Each layer of of flowers had to dry completely before the next layer could be applied. This created a unique sense of three dimensions in this painting and a great conversation piece for flower lovers everywhere.
